This covers Age of Empires I, II and III and their expansion packs as well as (my favorite) Age of Mythology!
Though I only own Age of Empires III (plus The Warchiefs and The Asian Dynasties) and Age of Mythology: The Titans, I thought we should have a thing for dicussing strategy and stuff.
Age of Mythology is a must-have game (at least for me) where you can control The Greeks, The Egyptians and The Norse. You pick a major god (Zeus,Poseidon,Hades,Ra,Isis,Set,Thor,Odin and Loki) and then advance through the ages under minor gods such as Artemis, Hermes, Thoth, Osiris, Hel or Forseti (there are a lot more than that). Every god you pick (minor god and major god) gives you special powers called god powers. These help turn the tide of battle or help your economy. Some of these powers include: Curse (turns some enemy units into pigs),Son of Osiris (turns your pharaoh in to a powerful demi-god creature) and Carnivora (spawns a giant man-eating plant).
During this time you have to balance your economy and your military. The goal is to defeat your opponent. You build an army out of soldiers. You also have myth units to help you out. They depend on the minor gods you chose. (Hermes gives you Centaurs, Osiris gives you Mummies and Hel gives you Fire Giants, Frost Giants and Mountain Giants for example.)
Certain units counter other units, such as Cavalry>Archers>Infantry>Cavalry. Most myth units can easily take out human soldiers, but are easily defeated by heroes, which are easily defeated by normal units. Soldiers are the number one thing needed to win (most of the time).
While you are fighting you have to focus on your economy. Your villagers have to farm, hunt, gather, chop trees and mine gold to make a good economy. You also have to build more buildings to churn out soldiers better, defend your town easier and advance through the ages. Economy is important without it, you won't have enough soldiers and you'll lose fast.
The number one thing I like best about Age of Mythology is the ability to play online with other people. So you just simply connect and play a game you want to.
Another cool thing is the map editor in which you can make your own maps, and then play on them!
There is also an expansion called The Titans in which you get a new playable culture, The Atlanteans. They have more playable gods, more Myth Units and More God Powers!
This game is really fun and I like it a lot. If anybody has The Titans, I'd love to play it online.
